Battery replaced, now watch doesn't work

I took my watch into the Batteries Plus location in North Fayette, PA (Western suburbs of Pittsburgh) in February 2013. They replaced the battery for $7.99 (w/tax). Now the backlight feature doesn't work. Nor do the buttons that I need to set the date/time/alarms on the watch. It is useless now.

This is a commonly overlooked installation problem. Sometimes on digital watches, the entire "movement" lifts out and the tabs that are pressed by the buttons will sit just above buttons rather than behind them.

It is a quick and simple fix, but easily missed until you go to set it. All that needs to be done is to reopen the watch and press the tabs in manually one by one until they all sit where they belong.

Guest

Tell them to check and see if there is another battery in the watch that runs the backlight. If there is not, the watch was probably messed up before you brought it in.

I work at a jewelry shop and when changing a watch battery, there is little to no risk of damaging the watch unless you have no common sense and slam the watch around or something that would damage the insides of the watch. Changing the battery is simple. Pop battery out, install new battery. Some watches require you to short the AC pad against the positive terminal on the battery for a few seconds to reset it.

I would take it back and have them check the two things I suggested. Hope this helps.

Toxic Customer Service, stepped across the line towards outright bullying

Batteries Plus - Toxic Customer Service, stepped across the line towards outright bullying

Bottom line - My investment, fuel costs to travel to the store from one city to the next.

Over two weeks ago I stopped in buy two separate cellular phone batteries.

I requested (did not buy) one of the batteries, which was not in their inventory.

The battery was going to be sent in from an other store. I was told by one of the five persons I dealt with, I'd have to wait a few days & I'd get a call when it arrived. The customer service issues started there. "James" called me the day the battery came in.

I drive more than 14 miles to get to the store. No biggie, since I worked it, as I had the first day, to take care of other errands while I was out that way. However, when I got to the store the battery was not in. So, James, who thought it was a good joke to not just lie to a customer, me, but waste my time saying the item I requested was now in.

Fast forward to Wednesday, when some older(yes I'm being an agist, due to his obvious behavior toward me as a younger person his actions could not be taken for anything else but. Since I was younger, I was ignorant by default- usually the prejudicial attitude of bigots.) Cut to the end - just a little more civil conduct & consideration or pride in the performance of one's job really is an intangible that goes a long way. Like, just "do your job." All the other stuff makes you uncool.

Don't be another number bro. Getting a battery from an establishment shouldn't take three weeks, topped with unhappy service from overweight workers

Bad Service

I went into Batteries Plus to purchase a battery I could have easily gotten online, but I wanted to support local business so I gave them a try. They did not have my battery in stock, and told me they could order it for me. I said that was fine, and placed the order, paid, and was told it would arrive in a week (on Friday). I thought that was a substantial amount of time to receive a battery and I needed it by that weekend, but I went ahead with the order anyway. When I called that Friday to check on the battery not only were they incredibly rude, but the gentleman told me "i have no idea when the battery will be here". I asked if it would be there before 5:00pm. His answer (very rude again) "I have no idea". I asked why no one told me the battery might not arrive when they said it would and he just continued to give me rude, short responses. I couldn't believe the lack of service and attention to detail at this store. next time I will defnintely be placing the order online.

We apologize for the poor service you received at our store. We have reached out to the store's management and they would be happy to assist you.

Please call the store directly at 410.309.9040 and ask for Ed. Thank you.

I work at Radioshack, and it is SO ANNOYING when people call first thing the day the item is supposed to arrive. They say things like, "You said the item would be in on Friday and it's not here!" Then i reply with, "Sir, it will be in today, I am not sure exactly when it will arrive.

It all depends on the delivery driver." And then they throw a fit. Even if it did show up after 5 PM, that is STILL FRIDAY! That is why WE call YOU when the item arrives. It is not the business' fault that your item wasn't delivered timely enough to suit you.

And where do you come up with "the item may not arrive"? I'm sure they never told you that it may not arrive. They were sure it was going to arrive, but not exactly sure on the time of day on Friday.

I wish you could work a day in retail. Then maybe you wouldn't be so *** snobby.

I work in retail/customer service. You CAN NOT blame the customer for being upset that the item was not in when they were TOLD it would be in.

If someone needs a product by a certain time and an employee ensures that it will be there, and it's not, then it is perfectly reasonable to get upset. It is NOT reasonable for an employee to be rude about it. It is just as easy to say, "I'm sorry, but I don't know when your ___ will be here. It all depends on the delivery driver.

I apologize for any inconvenience, but we will call you as soon as it arrives." THAT is being a decent employee. YOU sir need to stop being so "snobby" and realize that you CHOSE to work in a customer service position, and thus, you are supposed to SERVICE the customer.

Energizer Procells leak way too much!

Have purchased Energizer Procells from Z-Battery and never had leakage problems. Upon several occasions now I've had leaky Procells AAA, AA & D when purchased from Batteries Plus! Who knows why? Maybe they are B grade cells that are dumped on Batteries Plus at a discount? I don't remember having leakage problems for many years. Was common in the 1960's and almost never from the 70's through about 3 years ago. Only cells purchased from Batteries Plus! The Rayovac D cells sold in bulk also leak when purchasd from Batteries plus. Be very careful about anything from Batteries plus. Another oddity is that Procell folks require a business name or tax exempt ID to cell the Procells. Batteries Plus doesn't require this. How come? Maybe, these cells are B grade and dumped at a discount.

Batteries Plus has same policy to only sell to business accounts. There were some stores who ignored this policy which caused secrete shopping as well as training modules.

Guest

Um, maybe point your frustration at Duracell. All their ProCells are made in the same factory, as a proctor & gamble employee, I know who owns us (Duracell ProCells)

Guest

Procells are made by Duracell - you don't even know what you are *** about. Now that is funny.

I don't think there is such thing as a energizer procell

Bad Oldsmobile Battery

Updated by user Mar 05, 2013

I'm trying to reply to comments but for some reason can't. Anyway, here's what my invoice says:

To sum things up here is what my invoice says from my mechanic:

"Check car for not start. Found red wire ran from starter to fuse box melted through the battery. "The battery and starter will need to be replaced due to someone breaking the starter lead lug off. Battery will need to be replaced due to wire melting *** in side of battery."

They said the alternator was fine, and that the battery was bad. So I assumed it was Batteries Plus, because my car was fine before then. For those who don't think I know what I'm talking about, I did look it up on google and the battery CAN cause a starter to go bad due to some FAULTY wiring which is what sounded like it happened. Plus, please read the post carefully before second guessing me. I was SHOCKED that they would not take the battery back because it was slightly used and was the cause of the car going bad. Not because I had to return the battery.

My mechanic is rated very well in my area and they are NOT to blame. My car as been working fine since they fix it so I wish people would take the time to understand the post or ask questions before assuming things :x :roll

Original review Mar 04, 2013
I decided to give Batteries Plus a try in my hometown because they had a fairly good deal on a battery for my car. I went ahead and had them replace my battery, and two hours later my car died. Twice. At first, we (I, friends, family, even Batteries Plus employee) said it might be the alternator (I was on my way there for them to look at the battery). Well, my mechanic took a look at the car and told me it was a bad battery that was put in and ended up ruining my starter which I ended up paying both for to have it fixed. I thought I could at least get my money back for the bad battery from Batteries Plus, but they said they needed the battery back they put in. Plus they said it had to be in good condition. I'm like really, even though your battery caused my car to go bad. So I talked to the manager and we had a decent conversation, and he made it sounded like he would give me my money back that at least I paid for the battery. I was going to be nice to pay for the damages the battery caused, and they could not even pay me back my original purchase from them. So I will never go back to Batteries Plus again. I gave them a chance, and would of worked with them, but if they are going to be lazy and not honor their word, then it's not worth it. Stay away! So I lost $700 of equipment in my car because of this.

WOW that explained nothing. The WIRING ruined the battery.

The battery did not do anything to your starter or anything else on your vehicle. You expected them to let you return a battery that had *** in it?

Guest

I've never heard of a battery ruining a starter. I think that mechanic took you for a ride...

Guest

You wanted a refund but were shocked that they wanted the old battery back?! Also, a battery will not cause a starter to go bad.

Period. But a bad starter could ruin a battery...

That's for sure. Google it.

This website seems to be a place for clueless *** to *** and gripe about businesses not kissing their *** and paying for the customer's mistakes. Or complain about them doing things the proper way instead of the way the customer thinks they should be done.

Guest

I had a similar issue and it was explained as such: Batteries Plus works to solve issues through diagnosis. Other stores are not competent enough to accurately do this.

They could have "thrown parts at it" (replaced the battery immediately), but then I may have had the same issue again right away. I was very thankful that they take the time to make sure that my problem is solved.

They aren't Wal-Mart because they ACTUALLY know what they are doing. This website is a joke.

One Month And One Day

On Dec 29th 2012 i order Two 3.7V Li-Poly batteries for a Quadcopter. My order came in on Jan 30 2013. Wrong batteries. Store #896-02. Customer order #89610**** Inv#896-21****. Too bad, first time and last. Nice set-up. I was told at first that due to the holydays it would be approx. a week. the next excuse was this is a special order becouse they dont sell that kind of batteries. Then on M.L.K. holyday they told me that the warehouse was probably closed. What a waiste of time and gas. I did get my money back.

Sorry battery core return policy

I bought a battery for my Harley at the Cleveland Tn store. We live about an hour away.

I was told that all I needed to do was to return my old battery and I would be refunded the core. The core charge was only 7.00 so no big deal. My wife took my battery core back to the Cleveland Tn store and was told she could not return it because she did not have my credit card on which the battery was purchased. I was told that my transaction was on the computer and was never told that my credit card had to be present to get my 7.00 back.

When I worked at a retail store a few years back and a customer was not informed of the policy of what all was needed on a return, I took care of the customer. I have told many of my friends about this and most of them said they would not want to deal with a business like that. It was only 7.00. It will cost us that to drive back down there which I am not going to do.

I would rather pay more money and get better customer service which is what I will do from now on. Take my 7.00 and buy you some lunch.

Unprofessional Service

On Thursday 12/13/12 I went the BatteriesPlus Store #469 at 6255 College Drive in Suffolk, Virginia to purchase a replacement battery for my Nikon Camera. At that time I was told the battery was not in stock but could be obtained from another store, the next day. I paid for the battery at that time and was given a receipt # 469-10****. My receipt shows the promise date as 12/14/12 and I was told the battery would be there on the next day. On 12/14/12 I again went to the same store and was told the battery had not came in yet ? On 12/15/12 I called before driving out to the store. I was first informed that there was not order on file in my name. I then called back and gave the Order Number to the clerk. He told me the battery would arrive on 12/21/12. Informed him of what I had be told and he then told me I had misunderstood. I know what I was told and I have a written receipt showing the promise date. I told clerk who identified himself as Dennis that if this is the manner in which Batteries Plus does business that I would no longer be a customer and will tell all my friends and family about the services you provide. I will be returning to the store on Monday December 17, 2012 and expect a full refund.

Batteries Plus - Bad Business

I purchased a new battery pack for my APC UPS in September 2012. In December 2012, those batteries failed. I took the batteries I purchased back in to get them replaced, and was told that they would not honor the warranty because they did not believe I purchased the batteries from them. Just over 3 months after I bought them... They further said that those batteries were not the correct ones for my UPS. So apparently, not only did they sell me USED BATTERIES as new ones, they also sold me the incorrect batteries for my application... Wow. Complete FAIL BatteriesPlus. I contacted Corporate, and they proceeded to tell me that they were unable to do anything about this. Don't do business with these guys. I just looked up the same batteries on Amazon, the cost is within $7, and I they'll deliver to my doorstep. Furthermore, I know if there's an issue with the batteries, Amazon will MAKE IT RIGHT. What a huge disappointment, BatteriesPlus. Happy Holidays, even though you suck. I hope the $80 you took from me was worth it...

Batteries Plus ( The US based business) has no locations in Abu Dhabi.

Amazon doesn't sell UPS batteries.

Third party vendors do sell UPS batteries on their site. Third party vendors there may or may not have a warranty.

Terrible batteries, terrible service

Bought $1,000 worth of laptop batteries, but two thirds of them were dead within thirty days. They replaced 5 but want to charge me for the sixth. The clerk said I need to talk to manager and was very unhelpful, that he could not help me. When I asked for my old battery back, he just said he did not know where it was. Would not even look up from his terminal. I pointed it out to him. This *** is now in its third month and still no resolution. Last time I buy from a local merchant, ordering online.

wahhhhhh wahhhh wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cry me a river. you don''t need to keep your car by the fireplace to keep the battery from freezing.

Maybe try charging the battery or driving the car every once in a while. It's called common sense.

Guest

From the website of Trojan Battery - The only way that a battery can freeze is if it is left in a state of partial or complete discharged. As the state of charge in a battery decreases, the electrolyte becomes more like water and the freezing temperature increases. The freezing temperature of the electrolyte in a fully charged battery is -92F. At a 40% state of charge, electrolyte will freeze if the temperature reaches approximately 16F.

A warranty is normally based on a defect in the product. Discharged is not a defect.

Refund Policy / knowing product

I went to Batteries Plus to get a Battery for my motorcycle I was told the battery I was purchasing was a gel battery. It did not want to crank my bike properly. I call the store and was told by a sales person that I was sold the wrong size battery this was confirmed by the manager. I took the battery back to get the correct size. was informed that it was the correct size. I was also told that the battery was not a gel battery. I am not happy with the performance of the battery so I requested a refund. I paid cash for the battery and was told that I would have to wait for the owner of the company to send me a check for my refund because the purchase was over $20.00. The were paid at time of purchase but I was to wait for them to mail a check for my refund. There only response it there is a sign on the wall. "Batteries Plus" REFUSES TO ACCEPT DEFECTIVE LAP TOP BATTERY

I purchased a lap top battery on January 25, 2013 and brought it to my niece's home. It sat on the table, unopened for three (3) days. We then placed it in the copmuter and charged it fully. After being charged, we ran the lap top and the battery died after 2 1/2 hrs. Again we charged it, with the same results. I then returned back to "Batteries Plus" on February 01, 2013 to return it for a refund on my credit card. Everything was explained to the a female employee behind the counter and she then stated gthat their battery tester is broken and there is no way that they can test the battery. But if I'd like to check the battery for testing, I would have to drive to the Denver location for testing. I then restated that I was visiting from Ohio and that I'm NOT going to drive all around to prove that the lap top battery is defective. She then contacted her store manager, "Paul" and explained the whole situation to him and that I was leaving tomorrow (February 02, 2013) to go back home to Ohio. She spoke for a while and hung up. She then told me that their return policy is five (5) days and that they, "Batteries Plus", cannot refund my credit catd, but they would be willing to give me a replacement for my niece's lap top battery. I then asked what would happen if the replacement battery preformed just as poorly as the original one that I purchased, how would I be able to have that one returned and my credit card refunded, since I wouldn't be in Aurora, let alone the state of Colorado. She had no answer. She then gave me "Paul's" telephone number to call and speak with him, since she just spoke to him and hopefully he would give the okay for a credit card refund. I called the number that was given to me (303-932-****) and it was answered by a female. I asked if I may speak with "Paul) and she asked who I was and why I was calling. I stated that I was given the number from an employee at the Abilene store, who had just spoken to "Paul", and that I should speak with him regarding my issue. This female stated that "Paul" wasn't there and that she would "shoot him an e-mail" and he would call me when he can. She then asked for my telephone number and said that "Paul" would call me when he's available. I then asked if she would like my name, and she said that it wasn't needed. But I told her it was Frank. I then disconnected with her. "Batteries Plus" is a poorly run business!! Horrible customer service regarding the return policy and rude behavior at the main phone number. I've filed a dispute with my credit card company for reimbursement. I warn future buyers beware of "Batteries Plus", the company is not customer friendly on returns, only when you purchase items.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We have reached out to this store and have discussed your situation directly with Paul and the owner of this location.

The store is willing to work with you on the exception to the 5-day return policy provided that they can properly test the battery and verify that it is indeed defective.

Guest

Laptop batteries will not reach full capacity until approximately 5-10 full charge/discharge cycles. There is a bit of a break in period on any type of lithium ion battery.

The first few times you use it, it will only be at about 60% of its rated capacity. I'm a battery engineer and work with these kinds of batteries 6 days a week.

Guest

Unless it is an extended battery most laptop batteries last 1.5-3.5 hours depending on what you are doing on the laptop.
